This can be caused by many different diseases including bacterial or fungal infection and cancer. Lymphadenopathy is the term for enlarged lymph nodes which can be caused by many conditions and lymphadenitis is the term for swollen lymph nodes that are caused by infection or inflammation. What causes swollen lymph nodes in. These glands have the task of filtering blood and store the white blood cells or the lymphocytes. Typically the lymph nodes in dogs throats become most swollen during this type of bacterial infection. Just like us dogs have several lymph nodes in their bodies and just like us they are prone to getting them inflamed or infected in certain circumstances which leads to their enlargement.
