Nicknamed Monkey face for their cute little faces the Brussels Griffon is a small sturdy dog. Originally developed in Belgium to hunt vermin this playful sensitive breed has become better known as a companion animal and thus is best suited for singles seniors and families though its sensitivity and moodiness may not be a good mix with younger children. The brussels griffon is a member of the Toy group of dog breeds.

Experts and owners agree this breed is highly intelligent and highly trainable.

The males height will vary anywhere between 20 to 22 inches while the females will have a height range of 19 to 21 inches. Its ancestor the Griffon dÉcurie or Stable Griffon was crossed with the English Toy Spaniel in the 19th century resulting in reduced size a shortened face and the loss of the ratting instinct. It is thought to have its links tied to breeds like the Toy Spaniel the Pug and the Affenpinscher. The Brussels Griffon was recognized by the AKC in 1910 and is its 64th breed.
